Donate to The City Mission at Sip, Shop, Stroll

Our entire mission behind the Winter Market: Sip, Shop, Stroll is about supporting small businesses and our community. In past years, after paying expenses, any leftover money from the vendors’ participation fees has been donated to charity, but this year we want to do more.

We recently saw a news segment on Cleveland 19 about The City Mission. They are in dire need of donations to help serve the overflow of homeless women and children in our community, especially now that the days and nights are getting colder.

According to The City Mission’s website, for more than a year, the shelter beds in our area have been full, leaving about 50 women and children to sleep on a gym floor each night. Just last night there were 61 women and children housed in the emergency overflow gym, so the need is definitely increasing with the worsening weather.

This story hit us right in the heart. We want to do all we can to lend a hand, and we’d love your help!

During our event on November 16, we’ll be collecting donations for The City Mission. If you’d like to participate, you can either donate monetarily or by putting together a Clothing or Personal Hygiene Overflow Kit, which there is a current need for (see below for instructions). Donations can be dropped off at Lather a salon (1309 Linda Street) from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. during the event.

Each person who drops off their donation to us during the event will be entered into a raffle to win a gift basket containing a collection of prizes from our event vendors and hosts.

Here’s what you need to do if you're interested in donating an Overflow Kit:

Clothing Overflow Kit

Clothing Overflow Kits are needed in both women’s and children’s sizes. When buying items for a kit, choose a size and fill your kit with coordinating items of the same size.

1. Fill a GALLON-sized zipped bag (such as a Ziploc) with the following items:

— 2 new pairs of socks

— A 3-pack of new white t-shirts

— 3 pairs of new underwear

2. Use a permanent marker to label the outside of the bag with the sizing.

3. Bring your Overflow Kit to Lather a salon during the Sip, Shop, Stroll to donate.

Personal Hygiene Overflow Kit

Personal Hygiene Kits are needed for both women and children, so if you choose to make more than one kit, consider making some with an adult toothbrush and some with a child-size toothbrush.

1. Fill a GALLON-sized zipped bag (such as a Ziploc) with the following items:

— Hand sanitizer

— Travel-size toothpaste

— Toothbrush

— Deodorant

— Travel-size shampoo/conditioner

— Bar of soap

2. Bring your Overflow Kit to Lather a salon during the Sip, Shop, Stroll to donate.

* If you are unable to attend the Sip, Shop, Stroll but would still like to make and donate Overflow Kits, you may drop them off at Lather a salon between now and the day of the event, and we will take care of delivering them to The City Mission. Please note, only those donating during the event on November 16 will be entered into the raffle.
